 | | The term house building covers a very large variety of building types and utilizations ranging from what are normally on your mind when thinking of house building, namely blocks of flats or family houses, to a number of more or less specialized buildings: schools, nursing homes, office buildings, canteens, exhibition buildings, parish halls, kindergartens and student hostels.
The first house building project designed by ISC also became the first building project in Denmark where new principles for light weight structures were used – a detailed description of this project can be found on the following pages.
Since that many other designs in this category has been added and most of them can be characterized as diverting from the traditional house building where the use of reinforced concrete elements for many years has been the first choice for the contractors.
Through the years ISC in their designs have used all types of materials in the structures: steel in a highly developed light weight building system, wood for multi storey structures and naturally the historically traditional Danish bricks and tiles – and a number of reinforced concrete element buildings have been designed as well!
But we find it more interesting when the design is a little unconventional as it often happens either due to the function or the shape or due to an inspiring co-operation with many of Denmark’s skilled architects.
