Special Structures
”Special Constructions” is an awkward term – what might be special for some may not be particularly special for others – and what is it that entitles something to be characterized as a “Special Construction”?

Is it the size? No – not necessarily.
ISC’s smallest structure the Space-X node for rational assembly of space structures – that is something special.

Is it the beauty? Yes – possibly.
Is it the marketing value or a prominent placement in public space?

The answers are many but for us a special structure is one that has offered exciting challenges during the solution – technical or aesthetical (or both) and the final result differs from what can be seen everywhere.

Let cranes be an expression of the point of view.

Cranes are breath-taking.

On large construction sites and in harbours all over the World the huge weightlifters are bustling about with jarring, rattling and jingling sounds of metal against metal, with sibilant hydraulics and with measured movements, swaying, turning, rising, descending.
Huge loads are moved, controlled by a single person in a little cabin high up in the sky – or strolling on the ground with his hands on the controls.

In the dark floodlight follows the heavy elements in their spatial journey and all sounds are amplified when all other activity is calmed down.

When they finally stand still – when the shipyard or the factory is dark and deserted, when the dock’s gurgling can be heard – they stand as giant lurking reptiles or scenting insects silhouetted against the pale night sky.

Cranes are magic – a special structure.
