In the period of 2002-2003 steel structures for a new Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) plant have been designed for 2 units at the Eggborough Power Station in North Yorkshire, England.

The process is a (gypsum producing) wet spray absorption process, using limestone as absorbent. Each absorber consists of one tank, one cleaning tower and two flue gas duct connection pieces.
Each absorber is equipped with a recirculation pipe system. The recirculation pipe leads the slurry from the absorber tank to the spray pipes located in the cleaning tower.

A flue gas duct system connects each absorber to the existing plant and to the existing chimney. All flue gas ducts are of circular shape with a diameter of 6,000 – 6,500 mm, with transition pieces in areas where they are connected to booster fans, by-pass, flue gas duct inlet to and outlet from the absorber or chimney.

The flue gas ducts are designed for pre-fabrication in large sections on ground level at the site to be supported on yokes and towers and on the existing chimney for the lateral loads. In order to secure proper access facilities to all parts of the plant, galleries, platforms and stairs will be established at various locations around absorbers, flue gas ducts, booster fans and tanks.

The structural steel including gallery structures comprises of approximately 3,500 t.

Snekkersten, New Waterworks

ISC Consulting Engineers A/S has in cooperation with a team consisting of turnekey contractor Krüger, contractor CC Bruun Enterprise and Gottlieb Paludan Architects won the turnkey contract for the new waterworks in Snekkersten in competition.

For F.L. Smidth ISC has designed storage facilities for raw material and additives to the cement factory Obajana Cement PLC in Lokoja, Kogi State, Nigeria, approx. 100 miles from the coast.

The Avedoere Plant 2

Avedoere 2 is one of the most efficient and environmental friendly power plants worldwide, and it is able to use up to 94% of the energy from the fuel. Avedoere 2 has a capacity of 585 MW el-powers similar to the power consumption in 800.000 homes and 570 MJ/S district heat similar to the district heat consumption for approximately 110.000 homes. The efficiency of the fuelled energy is 95 %.
