Green energy for 120,000 households
The Gunfleet Sands wind farm has a capacity of 172 MW. The wind park consists of 48 wind turbines, supplying more than 120,000 households, or approximately 20% of households in Essex, with sustainable power.
The substation's two transformers of 250 tons each are located in the middle of the platform in the open, while the remaining electrical installations, workshops, etc., are indoors. Around the outside of the platform itself, a stainless steel windshield has been fitted so that the staff can move reasonably protected on the bridge. The total weight of the top side plant is 1250 tonnes.
The foundation of the substation platform is a monopile of the same type used for the wind turbines; however, it is modified to support the topside module and a waste oil tank at the top.
ISC has carried out the design of the entire substation, including pre-project, detail design, all electrical and plumbing installations, sea transport structures, fire safety, and authority approval at DNV. We have also been responsible for the design of the tender material, working drawings, and supervision.
