WTG Foundations

Foundation projects for 30+ offshore wind farms

Looking at our references, you will see that we have completed successful offshore projects with more than 30 offshore wind farms. We, therefore, know from experience that project management control and communication with developers are crucial to making an offshore project successful from start to finish.

We know that optimization is always a factor when building offshore wind farms. Furthermore, risk minimization is often a priority in designing and constructing WTG foundations.

Based on decades of experience in offshore construction, we believe that by choosing us as designers, you will achieve more optimal solutions, better coordination, and significant savings on steel. Therefore, we believe that we at ISC should design both primary and secondary structures for your next WTG project.

We know how important it is that the design is carried out thoroughly - and we guarantee that we can deliver.

Our competencies

Our offshore experience has given us expertise that we use in WTG foundation projects. This covers different types of substructure, including monopiles and different types of jackets.

We have experience working with local authorities across Europe, APAC, and the US to create regulatory-approved solutions in compliance with local regulations. We have solid experience collaborating with all stakeholders within a WTG foundation project, considering input from, e.g., O&M, HSE, WTG suppliers, manufacturers, and various installation parties.

Primary Structures

Our extensive track record in the design of offshore structures both in renewable energy, but also in oil and gas, proves that we time and again deliver high quality design of all types of offshore foundation types (monopiles, jackets, gravity based).

Our extensive experience gives us a unique understanding of the design of primary structures in general, therefore we recognize the importance of finding a cost-effective foundation design that for primary structures of WTG foundations takes several factors into consideration.

This includes optimizations regarding interaction with wind turbine loads, wind and wave loads, soil data and impact on secondary structures. We strive to achieve a design phase that includes all stakeholders while focusing on the common goal of delivering top quality foundations.

Secondary Structures

Secondary structures may sound insignificant, but at ISC, we know that these structures are key to a sound and efficient foundation design in all life cycle phases of a WTG foundation.
We know that a well-thought-out secondary structure design has a significant impact on manufacturing costs, both in terms of general savings on primary steel consumption and in the manufacturing costs of the secondary structures themselves.
As secondary structures also include access and working spaces on the foundation, a simple but safe design will have a direct impact on the operational phase by reducing HSE risks and reducing maintenance of the structures.

We have been part of the design phase for all secondary structures on more than 30 offshore wind farms. Structures both suitable for onshore and offshore installation.

Geotechnical Engineering

Through our many offshore foundation designs, we have developed strong geotechnical experience, especially in pile design - but also for other types such as gravity-based foundations.

To ensure a smooth and optimal connection between soil data and foundation design, our geotechnical team is always an integral part of the design process in all phases. Our experience is that close collaboration results in cost and risk reductions for our customers and ultimately results in a better overall design.

The scope of secondary structures includes

External Steel and Concrete Working Platforms

Anode Support Structures

Bolting Flanges between MP and TP

Ladders, Resting Platforms, and Boat Landings

Technical Standards and O&M Manuals

J-tubes

Grouting Systems and Connections

Internal Platform Modules

Guide Systems

Transport & Installation

We have long-term experience with the engineering of constructions for the installation and transport of offshore constructions.

Our experience with several international projects and clients proves that we can deliver in all project phases from FEED to detailed design through supervision during manufacture and offshore installation. We have created installation tools and sea attachment designs for topsides, jackets and monopoles for shorter and longer sea voyages considering sea transport loads and fatigue loads.

We always strive to be a team player providing reliable engineering services to our clients and to the project as a whole as we know that the T&I phase is a costly part of any offshore project.

Electrical Installations

High-quality electrical installations within a WTG structure are complex and a very high level of integration across all disciplines is needed for the WTG to come together as a good technical and cost-effective solution.

Consideration of space reservations, serviceability, the lifetime of the WTG and low manufacturing and installation costs while ensuring the most efficient manufacturing cycle are all essential factors that require specialist knowledge to create the best possible solution.

We have been part of the offshore market for quality design solutions for decades and are known for delivering a large range of customized solutions within all aspects of the electrical and instrument discipline, always with quality and innovation as keywords. This knowledge enables us to quickly and efficiently deliver highly specialized solutions that suit the individual task – and since we have all engineering disciplines in-house, we can create the most optimized electrical and instrumental solution possible.

Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)

At ISC, we know that a good foundation design must be synonymous with a safe design. Therefore, we strive to ensure that our foundation designs can be manufactured, installed, and operated safely - after all, human health and safety are of utmost importance.

We have solid experience running or actively participating in HAZOP and HAZID studies throughout the design phase and incorporating results directly into our designs.
We also offer fire and safety design. Our in-house safety designers have extensive experience in designing escape routes, passive fire protection, fire and safety plans, and safety signage.
